The 23rd annual United Way Day of Caring was held today across the greater Fort Wayne area. A team of employees from VOSS Automotive joined 1,250 community volunteers in partnering with local non-profit organizations to lend a hand in completing an array of community service projects.
Participating in Day of Caring for the first time, VOSS partnered with Turnstone, which provides therapeutic, educational wellness and recreational programs to empower people with disabilities. Turnstone’s annual carnival for its adult and adolescent clients coincides with Day of Caring and employees from VOSS assisted with planning and staffing the event.
More than 100 Turnstone clients enjoyed the morning playing traditional carnival games, winning prizes, face painting and a picnic lunch. All Occasion Party Rental generously donated a moonwalk for use at today’s celebration.
Day of Caring focuses on the meaning of LIVE UNITED, by taking action to strengthen communities. United Way works together with agencies and volunteers to meet the needs of our community making Allen County a better place to live and work.
Turnstone is the only free-standing not-for-profit organization in northeast Indiana that provides a comprehensive continuum of supportive services, addressing the unique needs of people who have physical disabilities, as well as their families. The agency is governed by a dynamic board of directors and is known for its highly professional staff of licensed professionals, including physical, occupational, speech and recreation therapists; social workers; and educators.
